At the Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute we specialize in Botox treatments. Botox is the treatment of choice for non-surgical correction of upper facial wrinkles. The forehead, glabella (space between the eyebrows) and the crow’s feet areas all develop wrinkles from the underlying muscles contracting as we animate. As these muscles contract they cause the overlying skin to wrinkle. Over time these wrinkles can become permanently established in the skin.
By softening the muscle activity in the areas with unsightly wrinkles the skin is sujected to weaker contractions and therefore the wrinkles become less pronounced. They usually don’t completely go away but they are certainly improved. Botox doesn’t last forever and its effects are usually only seen for three months. After this time the muscle activity starts to recover and the skin begins to wrinkle again. When used consistently every 3-4 months the effects may be longer lasting and the skin will look better than if its used sporadically. Think of this like going to the gym, results are only seen if a consistent regiment is applied.
The injections are given in the office and are essentially painless. Sometimes there can be a little bruising but this is not too common. Dr. Leedy uses the recommended reconstitution guidelines for Botox so you can be assured that you will receive the proper concentration. Costs are in line for the community and run $15/unit.
Typical initial treatment doses are 20 units for the glabella, 12 units each crows feet area, and 12 units for the forehead. Dr. Leedy will use his clinical experience to adjust these initial doses to achieve the results you are looking for. Botox starts to work in 2-3 days and the improvement in the skin continues for 2 or more weeks and then plateaus. Again if continued regularly the effects will be longer lasting and nicer. The Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute specializes in facial non-surgical rejuvenation with injectable fillers. Injectable fillers are ideal for non-surgical correction of established wrinkles in the skin and for enhancing volume-deficient areas. The typical treatment areas of in the lower third of the face or in the tear trough of the lower eyelids. The lines from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth can deeped as we age. This are is called the nasolabial fold. Lines also may develop from the corner of the mouth to the side of the chin. These are called the marionette lines.
The lips tend to thin as we age and crease develop from the lip line and extend onto the skin. In some people there can be hollowing underneath the lower eyelids which leads to a prematurely aged and tired appearance. In order to correct these problems there are injectable fillers. There are a variety of products for treating these problems and each filler has its own risks and benefits. At the Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute Dr. Leedy has used many of the products and studied all of them and offers his patients the safest, most effective voluminizing filler agents.
For most patients Dr. Leedy will recommend Restylane. This is a very safe product and has the longest track record of all of the commonly used fillers today. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occuring substance found in all of our bodies. It is non-reactive so there is no need for allergy pre-testing. At the time of your consultation you can have the treatment if you would like. It is a simple process. The areas to be treated are first numbed with a topical numbing cream and sometimes with local injections of anesthetic.
This is similar to injections that you may have at the dentist. Once the areas are numb Dr. Leedy will expertly place the injections to give you the improvement you are looking for. There may be a little bruising and swelling with the process that could last a day or two. The results last for six months. As time passes the product gradually disappears. Sometimes Dr. Leedy will recommend other products such as Radiesse and Juvederm.
