View MorePrior to undergoing liposuction, you must complete a pre-surgery evaluation and stop taking specific medications if asked. For best results, you should achieve an ideal body weight before you begin treatment. Remember to avoid food and drink the morning of surgery, don’t smoke, and arrange for someone to drive you home.
Before surgery, a general or local anesthesia is given to make you fall asleep so you will feel no pain. A tiny incision will be made near the pockets of fat using a cannula, or a thin tube, to gently suction and remove the fat cells from your body.
After the procedure, make sure you have someone to drive you home. During healing, expect bruising, redness, swelling, and tenderness at the liposuction site.
