You take great joy and pride in the family you’ve created and you want to show your children off every chance you get. Unfortunately, you’re not as keen about the spotlight, thanks to post-pregnancy changes in your body that you can’t seem to undo.
Believe us when we say you’re not alone, which is why the mommy makeover is so popular. Here at Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute, our team of board-certified plastic surgeons has extensive experience helping women hit the reset button on the unwelcome changes brought about by pregnancy.
Here’s a look at what happens to your body during pregnancy and how we can help with a mommy makeover.
Changes in your body that outlast pregnancy
We don’t need to tell you that your body goes through some very significant changes during pregnancy. While many of these changes dissipate within a few months after childbirth, others become more permanent, such as:
- Sagging breasts
- Hollow breasts
- Vaginal laxity
- Stretch marks
- Loose abdominal skin
- Wider hips
- Flatter bottom
- Fat redistribution
Clearly, pregnancy can leave you with many lasting reminders, practically from head to toe (yes, your feet can also become bigger!). For a more complete list of potential changes and why they occur, check out this article.
Making mommy over
There are two important points we want to make about a mommy makeover. First, a mommy makeover is designed for women who are NOT going to get pregnant again. So, if you’re considering a mommy makeover, make sure that your pregnancy days are in the rearview mirror, as having another child will undo the work.
Second, a mommy makeover isn’t a standard procedure. Rather, it is tailored to your goals. Mommy makeovers can include one or more of the following:
- Breast lift
- Breast augmentation
- Tummy tuck
- Brazilian butt lift (a procedure in which we inject fat from your body into your buttocks)
As you can see, many possibilities fall under a mommy makeover, and understanding what each accomplishes is essential. For example, you might think you want a breast augmentation when what would really work is a breast lift. This same holds true for liposuction and the tummy tuck — the first removes fat while the second tightens loose skin. Rest assured, we can, and often do, perform these two procedures together.
It’s also essential to understand that we don’t perform these procedures all at once, but we do try to combine them whenever possible. For example, if you want us to lift your breasts, tuck your tummy, suction out fat, and lift your buttocks, we may start with the breast surgery and, once you’re ready, tackle the tummy tuck, liposuction, and Brazilian butt lift.
When you come to see us, we review what you’d like to get out of your mommy makeover, and then we discuss a potential timeline. We are just as concerned about your safety and comfort as we are about delivering excellent results, so we will work together to find an approach that best fits your lifestyle and goals.
